　　摘 要：Although prior research has recognized the reverse spillover effect of outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) on the performance of parent firms, knowledge regarding the role of government support in the internalization process of emerging economy multinational enterprises (EMNEs) and the ways in which this internationalization is built upon is rather limited. This paper investigates whether EMNEs with high levels of government support experience ex post domestic productivity gains. Incorporating both institutional economics and the resource-based view, we combine propensity score matching (PSM) with difference-in-differences (DID) approaches to test the framework of this study. Utilizing comprehensive data on Chinese manufacturing firms taken from the sample period 2004-2013, we find that firms tend to be more productive after they engage in OFDI and that those with high levels of government support exhibit increases in productivity; additionally, these effects vary depending on the destination of the investment and domestic industry.
